Plage d'Albigny

Located on the shores of Lake Geneva, about 15 kilometers south of Évian-les-Bains in Haute-Savoie, Plage d'Albigny occupies a discreet segment of the French coastline facing the Vaud Alps. The lake, with an average depth of 154 meters, borders here a coast characterized by gradual access and developed swimming areas. The surrounding landscape alternates between lakeside meadows and small leisure facilities, typical of the south shore of Lake Geneva where beaches follow one another without major disruption to the landscape. The swimming area is distinguished by its direct and unrestricted access, contrasting with the more structured atmosphere of Impérial beach and Plage de l'Impérial, located about 500 meters away. Unlike its immediate neighbors, including Baignade CH 100 meters away, it retains a less formalized character. The lake water, cold even in summer (rarely above 20°C), offers invigorating swimming. The bottom, gradual and without remarkable obstacles, facilitates entry into the water. No permanent facilities are reported on site. Swimming is done without supervision, and access for wheelchair users is not provided. The Blue Flag status is not awarded to this area.

About this spot

Albigny, a historic hamlet of the commune of Publier, owes its name to the landed properties of the local aristocracy in the 19th century. Lake Geneva, formed by the Quaternary glaciers, has shaped this region for 15,000 years. The south shore, less developed than the neighboring Swiss side, has long served as a fishing and agricultural area. During the 1970s, with the rise of Alpine tourism, French communes gradually developed public access to swimming. Albigny represents this transition: neither a seaside resort nor a nature reserve, but an anchor point for local residents and transit travelers to Évian or Chablais.
