Kızlar Plajı

Kızlar Plajı stretches along the Black Sea coast, in the Zonguldak region of northern Turkey, about 1.8 km east of Kozlu Halk Plajı and 3.5 km west of Kapuz Plajı. This section of the Black Sea coast is characterized by a succession of small coves and pebble beaches, framed by wooded cliffs and rock formations that plunge directly into the cold and often rough waters. The area, less developed than the seaside resorts of the Aegean coast, retains an authentic coastal character, with few massive tourist facilities. The beach itself offers a quiet atmosphere, far from conventional commercial circuits. Unlike Kozlu Halk Plajı, which receives more visitors, Kızlar Plajı remains relatively discreet, frequented mainly by local residents and swimmers seeking tranquility. Access is via winding coastal roads that follow the region's mountainous terrain, and arrival reveals a narrow bay where the sea meets wooded slopes. Swimming conditions reflect the demanding nature of the Black Sea: waters remain cool even in summer, and the coast can experience periods of significant swell. No supervision facilities are available on site. Access for people with reduced mobility is not adapted. The site does not benefit from the Blue Flag label. Visitors must plan for complete self-sufficiency, without relying on formalized catering or parking services in the immediate vicinity.

About this spot

The name 'Kızlar Plajı' literally means 'Girls' Beach' in Turkish, a common designation in the region dating back to Ottoman social customs of separating bathing areas by gender. The coast of Zonguldak, historically dominated by coal mining, was for a long time an industrial area with little tourism. Since the 1990s, local initiatives have gradually promoted the seaside potential of these coves, albeit without the massive investments seen elsewhere in Turkey. The beach thus retains an authenticity characteristic of coastal resorts in transition, where the traditional economy coexists with the emergence of regional tourism.
