Ilıksu Plajı

Ilıksu Plajı stretches along the Black Sea coast in the Bolu region of Turkey, about 200 km east of Istanbul. This portion of the North Anatolian coastline is characterized by wooded cliffs plunging towards generally calm water, framed by dense forests typical of this temperate coastal area. The bay offers a certain natural privacy, protected from prevailing winds by the surrounding topography. The beach itself remains little developed, which clearly distinguishes it from its immediate neighbors like Saklıbahçe Değirmenağzı Plajı, located 3.7 km to the west, or other beaches in the area listed at 4 to 6 km. The absence of marked tourist infrastructure preserves a wild character: visitors find a relatively solitary atmosphere, far from standardized seaside resorts. The coast remains accessible from the coastal road, but without the typical amenities of seaside resorts. No supervision is provided on site, and access for people with reduced mobility is not arranged. The site does not benefit from the Blue Flag label. Swimming is therefore the sole responsibility of the visitor, making it a favorite spot for travelers seeking an authentic and minimally mediated coastal experience.

About this spot

The name "Ilıksu" literally means "warm water" in Turkish, a likely reference to the temperate currents of the Black Sea that characterize this region. The Bolu coast, less touristy than the western Anatolian coast, retains a traditional economy based on fishing and agriculture. Historically, this coastal area served as a crossroads between Byzantine and Ottoman trade routes, although few visible remains survive today. The beaches of the region remain transit points rather than organized resorts, frequented mainly by local fishermen and travelers in transit to the eastern Black Sea.
