Sandgate Beach

About this spot
Sandgate 的名字来源于撒克逊时期海岸防御系统——一个守卫海岸入口的设防“门”（gate）。该村庄在 19 世纪发展成为一个住宅度假胜地，吸引了逃离伦敦的作家和艺术家。H.G. 威尔斯于 1901 年至 1909 年居住在他位于 Spade House 的家中，从那里他经常眺望这片海滩。构成海岸的卵石来自更新世的冰川沉积物，由古老的北海携带，并经过数千年的海岸侵蚀形成。如今，该海滩仍然保留着宁静的度假氛围，远离了苏塞克斯更著名的度假胜地的喧嚣。
