Santa Maria

About this spot
圣玛丽亚（Santa Maria）这个名字指的是西西里岛许多沿海地区的守护神圣母玛利亚。墨西拿海峡的这段地区自古以来就是西西里岛和卡拉布里亚之间的重要通道——斯特拉博和老普林尼都曾描述过其不可预测的水流。在中世纪，沿海村庄为了躲避巴巴里海盗的袭击而退守内陆，这解释了为什么海岸线仍然人口稀少。海滩本身长期以来一直是当地渔民的非正式登陆点，这一功能至今部分保留。
