Plage de La Brune

La Plage de La Brune extends along the shores of Lake Annecy, in Haute-Savoie, about 2.9 km north of Sevrier. This Alpine glacial lake, one of the purest in France, borders a succession of small beaches and developed swimming areas. The surrounding shoreline alternates between wooded slopes and residential areas, while the peaks of the Semnoz range loom in the background. La Brune occupies an intermediate position on this stretch of coast, between the informal public access points of Plage du Plan 1 km to the south and Baignade CH 1.3 km to the north, in a transition zone between informal public access and municipal facilities. The site offers a fine sand beach, characteristic of Alpine lakeside shores. The general exposure remains gentle, with no notable waves, making it a quiet swimming area compared to the more structured ambiance of the municipal beach of Sevrier, 2.9 km away. Upon arrival, visitors discover a narrow sandy strip bordered by typical subalpine lake vegetation. The remarkably clear summer water reveals the shallow bottom. The atmosphere remains calm and uncrowded, favoring gradual immersion rather than Mediterranean-style beach swimming. Access to La Brune requires no entrance fee. Summer supervision is provided from July 1st to August 31st, between 11 AM and 7 PM, corresponding to peak attendance periods. No major facilities (parking, toilets, showers) are explicitly documented on site. The absence of Blue Flag certification reflects the less strict standards of lakeside swimming areas compared to marine coastal beaches.

About this spot

The name 'La Brune' likely refers to an old local designation related to the color of the water or the sector's geology. Lake Annecy, formed by the retreat of the Fier glacier about 19,000 years ago, has seen its shores progressively developed for tourism since the 19th century. Sevrier, a neighboring village founded around a medieval priory, long dominated the local economy through fishing and agriculture before shifting to lakeside recreation. La Brune is part of this wave of public swimming facilities that structured the lake from the 1960s onwards, transforming a subsistence area into a regional summer destination.
