Located on the north shore of Lake Geneva, about 15 kilometers east of Lausanne, this beach is part of the Lavaux wine region, where vineyard terraces descend to the lake's shores. The coastline of this region combines rocky sections and small pebble coves, characteristic of the Alpine Lake Geneva. The lake water, although cold even in summer, offers remarkable clarity and a gradual depth that invites swimming. This beach is distinguished by its direct access from the village of Saint-Saphorin, whose stone wine-growing houses overlook the shore. Unlike the more developed beaches located 1 kilometer and 3.1 kilometers away, this area retains a more discreet and less densely frequented character. The shore features a mix of pebbles and small sandy patches, typical of Lake Geneva. The atmosphere remains that of a local stop, far from massive commercial facilities: a few benches, a peaceful atmosphere, and a direct view of the Alps in clear weather. No structured facilities are present on site. Swimming is done without official supervision. Access remains simple from the village, although the absence of specific facilities implies a certain autonomy for the visitor. The site is not classified as Blue Flag.
Saint-Saphorin derives its name from the Christian saint Saphorin, venerated locally since the Middle Ages. The village, perched on the slopes of Lavaux, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has long prospered through terraced viticulture and river trade on Lake Geneva. This beach represents one of the few direct accesses to the lake from the heart of the vineyards: the villagers have descended here for centuries to cool off after the autumn harvests, transforming this shore into a natural break between work and lakeside relaxation.
