Plage municipale de Talloires

Talloires stretches along the eastern shore of Lake Annecy, in Haute-Savoie, about thirty kilometers south of Annecy. The village, nestled between the Alps and the crystal-clear waters of the lake, benefits from a southern exposure that makes it one of the thermal hotspots in the region. The local coast alternates between small rocky coves and grassy developed areas, forming a transitional landscape between mountain and lake. The municipal beach itself is characterized by a grassy surface rather than a traditional sandy beach, a common feature of Alpine lakeside developments. This configuration offers direct access to the water without a sandy transition, typical of Swiss and Savoyard swimming spots. In the immediate vicinity, CH Beach (100 meters) offers a nearby alternative, while Angon Beach (1.7 kilometers) and Duingt Municipal Beach (1.7 kilometers) represent other swimming spots in the area, each with its own physiognomy. The site enjoys relative tranquility, far from the hustle and bustle of Mediterranean beaches, with generally calm waters and gently sloping shores. Access is free, and parking is available. Lifeguard services are provided in July and August from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., coinciding with the high season. No commercial facilities are mentioned on the site itself, but the village of Talloires, known for its restaurants and heritage, is in the immediate vicinity. The absence of the Blue Flag label reflects the less demanding standards of continental lake waters compared to coastal norms.

About this spot

Talloires gets its name from the Latin 'talus' (slope), a direct reference to the steep topography that characterizes the village. Nestled against the cliffs of Roc de Bre, the site was long a fishermen's haven before becoming, in the 19th century, a popular destination for vacationers from Geneva and Lyon. The Abbey of Talloires, founded in the 9th century on the nearby peninsula, shaped the cultural identity of the place. The municipal beach itself is the result of 20th-century tourist developments, transforming a wild shore into an accessible swimming area. Village elders recount that before the 1960s, only local children dared to jump into the water from the rocks; grass has replaced rock to democratize access.
