Plage du Pellegrin - Bormes-les-Mimosas

Pellegrin Beach stretches along the Var coast, a few kilometers east of Bormes-les-Mimosas, in southeastern Provence. Located on the Mediterranean, between the Maures massif and the blue waters of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, this stretch of coastline benefits from a southwest exposure, making it a natural anchorage point for sailors and bathers. The surrounding coast alternates between small rocky coves and fine sandy beaches, with a backdrop of umbrella pines and Mediterranean scrub descending to the sea. The beach itself is part of a dense seaside fabric: just 100 meters away are the Pellegrin Beaches, while Chapelle Saint-Georges Beach is only 700 meters to the east. Despite this proximity to other busy spots, Pellegrin maintains a tranquil character, less crowded than its immediate neighbors. The shore attracts a mixed clientele of local residents and transient tourists, far from the hustle and bustle of Pampelonne or Tahitien Beach further west. The atmosphere remains that of a classic Mediterranean beach, with changing reflections depending on the time and season. Access to the site remains basic: no surveillance service is provided on-site, and the facilities are minimal. No major infrastructure (toilets, dedicated parking, showers) is documented. The beach does not hold the Blue Flag label. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not guaranteed. Swimming conditions depend entirely on the weather and seasonal marine conditions.

About this spot

Pellegrin derives its name from the Provençal "pelegrin," meaning pilgrim, evoking the medieval period when this coast welcomed travelers heading to the coastal sanctuaries of Var. Bormes-les-Mimosas, a fortified village overlooking the beach, has retained its medieval charm despite the tourism-driven urbanization of the 20th century. The region, historically linked to the Genoese and Provençal trade routes, has seen coastal shipping and fishing thrive. Today, Pellegrin embodies this discreet continuity: neither developed nor abandoned, it remains an authentic swimming spot for those familiar with the small coastal roads of Var, away from the marked routes of mass tourism.
