Spiaggia del Groppolo

Spiaggia del Groppolo extends along the coast of Emilia-Romagna, in northern Italy, a few kilometers south of Ravenna. This part of the Adriatic coast is characterized by a succession of relatively flat, fine sandy beaches, bordered by pine forests and traditional seaside facilities. The shore, with its gentle profile, is part of the typical coastal landscape of this region where lagoons and wetlands alternate with urbanized areas and historic seaside resorts. The beach itself offers an entirely sandy surface, gentle and gradual at the water's edge. Unlike Eco del mare, located 2.2 km to the north, which enjoys more sustained patronage, Groppolo retains a more discreet and less densely equipped character. Further south, Bagni Tamerici and Bagno Elisa (4.5 and 4.6 km respectively) represent more structured seaside establishments. The coast here remains accessible and unpretentious, offering a simple swimming experience, without official supervision or elaborate tourist infrastructure. The site does not have Blue Flag certification and has no water supervision. Wheelchair access is not provided. No specific facilities (toilets, showers, parking, restaurants) are documented on site. This configuration makes it a beach for local use, where visitors must anticipate their needs and have their own equipment.

About this spot

The name 'Groppolo' likely refers to a minor geographical formation—the Emilian dialect term could mean a small elevation or an irregularity in the terrain. This section of the Adriatic coast, long dominated by fishing and coastal agriculture, gradually transformed into a seaside destination during the 20th century. The Ravenna region, historic capital of the Byzantine Exarchate, has maintained a complex relationship with the sea: its beaches are often less spectacular than those in the south, but they embody the authenticity of a coast where mass tourism has never completely erased local uses. Groppolo, in this logic, remains a beach for residents and travelers seeking tranquility rather than attractions.
