Çakıl Plajı
Çakıl Beach stretches along the Turkish Mediterranean coast, in the Muğla region, near the Gulf of Gökova. This stretch of the Aegean-Mediterranean coastline is characterized by limestone cliffs plunging into crystal-clear waters, typical of this rugged and rocky coast. The beach is located a few kilometers from Çayağzı Beach (2.1 km) and TR-MED Beach (2.8 km), forming with its neighbors a string of small preserved shores far from the main seaside resorts. The beach draws its character from its covering of pebbles and small stones, which crunch underfoot and reflect the intensity of the Mediterranean sun. Unlike the fine sandy beaches of more touristy areas, this shore offers a raw and authentic texture, with gradual entries into the water between the pebbles. The atmosphere remains that of a sparsely developed coast, where geology takes precedence over infrastructure: smooth rocks smoothed by marine erosion dominate, and the backshore landscape retains its wild aspect, with the typical Mediterranean vegetation of the Turkish coastal slopes. No lifeguard service is provided on this site. Access is not adapted for people with reduced mobility. The beach does not have Blue Flag certification. Visitors must come equipped with their own resources and respect the natural character of the place.

The name 'Çakıl' literally means 'pebble' or 'gravel' in Turkish, a designation that accurately reflects the geological composition of the shore. This Mediterranean coast, formed by the erosion of the Taurus limestone over millennia, remains one of the least densely populated areas of the Gulf of Gökova. Historically, these small beaches served as anchorages for sailboats and local fishermen, before coastal tourism focused on large seaside resorts. Today, Çakıl Beach remains a refuge for sailors and travelers seeking to get away from conventional routes, preserving the essence of the Turkish Mediterranean coastline as it existed before the massive tourist transformation of the 1980s-1990s.
