Playa Baño de las Mujeres

Located on the southeastern coast of the Murcia region, Spain, about 40 kilometers southwest of Cartagena, Playa Baño de las Mujeres is part of a rocky and indented coastline characteristic of the Costa Cálida. This stretch of Mediterranean shore alternates between small coves and fine sandy beaches, dominated by limestone formations that plunge directly into crystal-clear waters. The area, sparsely urbanized, retains the wild appearance of the inner Murcian coasts, far from massive seaside developments. This sandy beach offers an intimate character, contrasting sharply with the nearby Cala de Calnegre (300 meters away) and Playa de Puntas de Calnegre (1.7 kilometers away), which share the same geology but attract more visitors. The shore gradually slopes towards calm waters in the summer, protected by the surrounding rocky outcrops. The absence of visible constructions from the beach reinforces its relative isolation, typical of the calas in this region where bathing is still practiced in a preserved atmosphere. No supervision is provided in this area. Access remains basic, without formalized tourist facilities. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not guaranteed. The site does not benefit from the Blue Flag label.

About this spot

The name "Baño de las Mujeres" perpetuates an ancient Mediterranean tradition: these small isolated shores once served as bathing areas reserved for women, a common practice in Spanish coastal communities until the 20th century. The region of Cartagena and its surroundings, rich in Phoenician and Roman history, retains traces of this vanished bathing segregation in its micro-toponyms. Today, the place mainly attracts local bathers and snorkelers who appreciate the clarity of the water and the lack of crowds characteristic of less accessible Murcian beaches.
