Platja Petita

Platja Petita extends along the coast of Central Catalonia, Spain, near the coastal region of Maresme. Located at approximately 42.25°N and 3.13°E, this small beach is part of a coastline shaped by the alternation of sandy coves and rock formations characteristic of the northwestern Mediterranean. The shore, dominated by the foothills of the Serralada Litoral, offers a succession of intimate beaches, including Platja de la Rovina (1.1 km nearby) and Platja del Salatar (2.7 km) as its immediate neighbors. The fine sand makes up most of this small cove, devoid of the massive crowds of large seaside resorts. Unlike Platja de la Rovina, more exposed to easterly swells, Platja Petita benefits from a more sheltered natural configuration. Direct access to the shore, without physical barriers, invites a relaxed approach to swimming. The site remains intentionally discreet, without ostentatious tourist facilities, which preserves its character as an authentic Mediterranean cove. No supervision service is provided on site. Access is not adapted for people with reduced mobility. No sanitary facilities, parking, or restaurant have been recorded. The Blue Flag status has not been obtained.

About this spot

The toponym 'Petita'—a diminutive of the Catalan 'petit' (small)—faithfully reflects the modest dimensions of this cove. Geologically, it is part of the Maresme coastal system, formed by marine erosion on Tertiary shale and sandstone. This area, historically frequented by local fishermen and sailors from Maresme, has retained its authenticity away from the standardized seaside developments that have characterized the Catalan coast since the 1960s. Locals continue to access it via coastal paths, perpetuating a tradition of non-commercial use of the beach.
