Located on the southern shore of Lake Geneva, in immediate proximity to the Franco-Swiss border, Plage des Pins is part of the lakeside area of Chablais Valaisan. The coordinates 46.81°N / 6.74°E place it in an area where the lake widens before reaching its greatest depth, characterized by relatively gentle shores and gradual bottoms. The surrounding coastline alternates between small pebble beaches and grassy areas, typical of this less densely urbanized section of Lake Geneva than the Swiss or Zurich shores. The hinterland remains largely natural, dominated by the pine forest that justifies the site's name. This beach is distinguished by its northeast orientation and exposure to the lake's thermal winds, making it a particularly popular spot for wind sports enthusiasts. Only 300 meters from Plage CH and 500 meters from a second Plage CH, it nevertheless asserts itself with its own dynamic, fueled by the regular aerodynamic conditions that characterize the Lake Geneva basin in summer. The absence of official supervision and the undeveloped access for people with reduced mobility make it a site resolutely geared towards autonomous and sporting use, far from the standardized amenities of seaside resorts. No major infrastructure is documented on site: no toilets, no structured parking, no catering. The absence of the Blue Flag label reflects the informal nature of this beach. Swimming conditions remain subject to weather hazards and seasonal lake variations, without dedicated swimming supervision.
The name "Pins" (Pines) evokes the coniferous forest bordering this section of Lake Geneva since the glacial period. This area, shaped by the retreat of Quaternary glaciers, retains the geomorphological characteristics of the Alpine lake shores. Historically, the Chablais beaches long served as access points for fishermen and goods transporters before the arrival of railways. Today, Plage des Pins remains a discreet landmark for Lake Geneva kitesurfers, who take advantage of the summer thermals generated by the thermal contrast between the lake and the surrounding Alpine massifs.
