Praia de San Pedro

Praia de San Pedro stretches along the northern coast of Galicia, Spain, in the region of Nós (ES-N), approximately 25 kilometers northwest of Ferrol. This section of the Galician Atlantic coastline is characterized by a succession of small coves and fine sandy beaches, framed by low cliffs and rocky outcrops typical of this rugged coastal area. The shore, exposed to the swells of the North Atlantic, benefits from a marine dynamic that continually shapes the profile of the banks. Backed by a narrow back beach, this beach stands out from its immediate neighbors by its more secluded character: Praia de Cirro, just 0.6 kilometers away, offers a similar profile but is slightly more accessible, while Praia das Fontiñas, 2.6 kilometers distant, marks a transition to more complex coastal formations. San Pedro maintains an atmosphere of relative tranquility, far from standardized tourist developments, with fine sand extending to a backdrop of scattered rocks. Swimming conditions vary significantly depending on tides and Atlantic weather conditions. The site does not have official lifeguard supervision or accessible facilities for people with reduced mobility. No major infrastructure (toilets, parking, showers, restaurants) is documented in the immediate vicinity, making it a destination for visitors seeking an unadorned coastal experience. The absence of a Blue Flag reflects this natural and minimally equipped character.

About this spot

San Pedro, in Galician toponymy, honors the apostle Peter, a central figure in Iberian Catholicism. This rocky and wind-battered coast, locally known as Costa da Morte ("Coast of Death"), owes its nickname to the frequent shipwrecks that have marked the maritime history of the region. In the 16th and 17th centuries, reefs and sudden storms sank countless ships, transforming this stretch of coastline into a marine cemetery. Even today, local fishermen respect these capricious waters, and beaches like San Pedro retain the memory of an untamed coastal nature, a refuge for cormorants and seagulls that dominate the horizon.
