Spiagga Licina

La Spiaggia Licina extends along the Tyrrhenian coast of Campania, a short distance from Agropoli, in the province of Salerno. This stretch of the Salerno coastline, characterized by a succession of small beaches and developed lidos, borders a gulf with temperate, shallow waters. The shore, typical of the Cilento coast, alternates between rocky formations and stretches of fine sand, with the Mediterranean hills descending gradually towards the sea in the background. The beach is distinguished by its position at the heart of a concentration of seaside structures: Lido Paradiso is only 100 meters away, while Spiaggia Agropoli, Lido Oasi, and Lido Azzurro are all about 200 meters away. Unlike its immediate neighbors, often equipped with imposing commercial infrastructure, Spiaggia Licina retains a more sober atmosphere, with beach supervision ensuring swimmer safety. Access to the water is gradual, making it a sector frequented by a local clientele attached to this less saturated portion of the Agropoli coastline. The beach benefits from permanent supervision during the summer season. However, it is not equipped for access by people with reduced mobility. No Blue Flag flies over this beach, which remains a discreet alternative to the neighboring, more touristy lidos. The immediate proximity of the town center of Agropoli, perched on its rocky promontory, allows easy access from urban infrastructure.

About this spot

The name "Licina" refers to the ancient history of Cilento: the region was long under the control of the Greek cities of Magna Graecia, then the Romans who established coastal villas there. Agropoli itself, whose name derives from the Greek "agros" (field) and "polis" (city), preserves the vestiges of this historical stratification, notably its Aragonese castle overlooking the bay. Spiaggia Licina is part of this landscape where each beach tells a chapter of the successive domination of Mediterranean powers. Even today, local fishermen regularly frequent this area, perpetuating a millennia-old tradition of exploiting the marine resources of the Gulf of Salerno.
