'샤테뉴레'라는 이름은 이 지역의 레만 호수를 내려다보는 나무가 우거진 경사면을 따라 늘어섰던 밤나무를 연상시킵니다. 과거 농업 지역이었던 이곳은 보두 해안의 점진적인 도시화에도 불구하고 시골의 특성을 유지했습니다. 역사적으로 레만 호수의 해변은 호숫가 마을의 보급 창고 역할을 했으며, 샤테뉴레는 20세기 해안선의 점진적인 사유화 이전에 호수 물에 자유롭게 접근할 수 있는 장소 중 하나였습니다. 오늘날에도 이곳은 몽트뢰 주민들이 여름 더위를 피해 찾는 인기 있는 수영 장소로 남아 있습니다.
