About this spot
오클랜드 해변은 한때 코네티컷 해안 지역에 서식했던 흰 참나무(oak)에서 이름을 따왔습니다. 대서양 연안의 이 지역은 플라이스토세 빙하기에 형성되었으며, 빙퇴석 퇴적물과 선캄브리아기 암석 지형이 특징입니다. 19세기에는 코네티컷 해안이 점차 해변 휴양지로 개방되었지만, 오클랜드 해변은 이웃 로드아일랜드의 더 유명한 휴양지에 비해 부차적인 목적지로 남아 있었습니다. 북대서양의 겨울 폭풍은 이 해안의 해변 지형을 끊임없이 재형성하는 정기적인 현상입니다.
