'페티타'라는 지명은 카탈루냐어로 '작은'을 뜻하는 'petit'의 축약형으로, 이 만의 작은 규모를 충실히 반영합니다. 지질학적으로는 3기 사암과 점판암의 해안 침식으로 형성된 마레스메 해안 시스템에 속합니다. 이 지역은 역사적으로 지역 어부들과 마레스메의 선원들이 자주 찾았던 곳으로, 1960년대 이후 카탈루냐 해안선의 특징이 된 표준화된 해변 시설과는 거리가 먼 진정성을 간직하고 있습니다. 지역 주민들은 해안 산책로를 통해 이곳에 계속 접근하며, 상업화되지 않은 해변 이용의 전통을 이어가고 있습니다.
