르 크뢰 드 장토드는 스위스 로망드의 레만 호수 남쪽 기슭에 위치하며, 제네바에서 동쪽으로 몇 킬로미터 떨어져 있습니다. 이 레만 해안 구역은 작은 만과 모래 해변이 연속적으로 이어져 있으며, 부드럽게 물속으로 내려가는 쥐라 산맥에 둘러싸여 있습니다. 평균 깊이 154미터의 호수는 이곳에서 일반적으로 잔잔하고 맑은 물을 제공하며, 특히 여름이 끝날 무렵에 그렇습니다. 장토드 마을에 인접한 이 수영 구역은 직접 접근이 가능하고 과도한 상업화가 없는 점이 특징입니다. 가까운 곳에는 플라주 지타나(1.3km)와 2.4km에서 2.5km 사이에 여러 개의 수영 구역이 있어, 지역 주민들에게 인기 있는 정박지의 연속을 형성합니다. 이곳은 제네바의 도시 해변에 비해 혼잡하지 않으며, 관광객보다는 인근 주민들이 주로 찾습니다. 공식적인 감시가 없고 자연 지형으로 인해 이 장소는 조용하고 덜 개발된 특성을 지니고 있습니다. 접근은 무료이며 일반 대중에게 개방되어 있습니다. 현장에는 전문 장비(화장실, 샤워실, 주차장)가 없으며, 수영은 감시되지 않습니다. 이곳은 파빌리온 블루 인증을 받지 않았습니다. 장애인을 위한 접근성은 보장되지 않습니다.

장토드는 중세 시대부터 레만 호수 남쪽 기슭의 자치체로, 장토드 가문, 즉 지역 영주들의 이름에서 유래되었습니다. 르 크뢰 드 장토드는 해안의 작은 지형적 함몰을 의미하며, 레만의 빙하기 이후 지질 형성의 특징입니다. 이 지역은 오랫동안 어부와 선원들의 하역 지점으로 사용되었으며, 20세기에는 제네바 시민들의 휴식처로 변모했습니다. 지난 세기 초의 혹독한 겨울에는 호수가 이 깊이에서 얼어 걸어 건너는 일이 종종 있었으며, 이는 사라진 관행이지만 여전히 지역 주민들의 기억 속에 살아 있습니다.
