Jetty Beach

Jetty Beach extends along the central coast of California, immediately adjacent to Monterey and its iconic bay. Located about 120 kilometers south of San Francisco, this beach occupies a segment of the rocky and rugged coastline that characterizes this region of the Pacific. The shore, dominated by granite formations and stony outcrops, contrasts with the fine sandy beaches of the more northern areas. The cold waters of Monterey Bay bathe this coast, where marine currents and upwellings create an exceptionally rich marine ecosystem. The site derives its identity from the pier that extends into the ocean, an emblematic structure that channels access and shapes the visitor's experience. Unlike Island Beach, located just 600 meters to the north, Jetty Beach offers direct access to this characteristic port infrastructure. The immediate landscape combines rocky expanses, areas of black volcanic sand, and tide pools that fill with each incoming tide. The atmosphere remains that of a coastline shaped by the elements, where the Pacific winds constantly sculpt the landscape and where marine fauna—sea lions, cormorants, starfish—remains omnipresent. No supervised swimming facilities are available on site. Access for people with reduced mobility is not arranged. The beach does not benefit from the Blue Flag label. Visitors should anticipate changing weather conditions and sometimes unpredictable coastal currents that characterize this stretch of the Californian coast.
