Thaghza b'Yedhi is part of the Kabyle-Algerian coastline on the Mediterranean Sea, in the immediate vicinity of Tigzirt, a coastal town in the Tizi Ouzou wilaya. The northern shore of Algeria here is characterized by a succession of small coves and narrow beaches, framed by the last foothills of the Djurdjura mountains descending towards the sea. The coast alternates between rocky outcrops and sandy deposits, forming a classic Mediterranean landscape where Mediterranean vegetation descends to the pebbles on the shore. This beach is part of a dense coastal chain: Feraoun beach is only 400 meters to the east, while the Grande Plage de Tigzirt, much larger, is 1 kilometer away. Thaghza b'Yedhi retains a more discreet, less structured character than its immediate neighbors. The shore, with little development, offers a sober swimming experience, without apparent tourist facilities. Access is from the village alleys, and the site is less frequented compared to the more visible seaside facilities of Grande Plage. No formal infrastructure is reported on site: no parking, no toilets, no showers, and no restaurants. The beach does not fly the Blue Flag, and no official supervision is provided. Access for people with reduced mobility is not guaranteed. The crowds remain local and seasonal, reflecting the authentic character of the Kabyle-Algerian coastline outside organized tourist routes.
Thaghza b'Yedhi literally means 'Yedhi's beach' in Tamazight, the Berber language spoken in Kabylia. Tigzirt, to which it is administratively attached, is a major historical site: the ancient Roman Tigisis, a strategic port of Mauretania Caesariensis. The Kabyle-Algerian coastline, though less famous than the western Mediterranean coasts, bears the imprint of millennia of navigation and trade. This beach embodies the fragmented nature of the Algerian coast, where each cove once served as a natural haven for Berber fishermen and Phoenician merchants. Today, it remains an anchor point for local life, far from the standardized seaside developments that have transformed other parts of the North Algerian coast.
