Feraoune Beach stretches along Algeria's Mediterranean coast in the Kabylie region, immediately adjacent to Tigzirt. Located roughly 100 kilometers east of Algiers, it borders a shallow bay defined by calm waters and a gentle slope toward open sea. The surrounding shoreline alternates between fine sandy beaches and rocky formations typical of this northern Algerian coast, where the Mediterranean meets the foothills of the Djurdjura mountains. Behind the beach, sparse Mediterranean vegetation and the wooded slopes of the Kabylie hinterland dominate the landscape. What sets this beach apart is its quiet, underdeveloped character—a stark contrast to the bustling Grande Plage de Tigzirt, situated 1.8 kilometers away, which concentrates most of the area's tourist infrastructure. Just 0.5 kilometers to the east lies Plage Feraoun, so close to Feraoune that the two are practically inseparable. The site offers a genuinely relaxed atmosphere, free from standardized amenities, with direct sand access and full southern exposure that makes it an ideal vantage point for watching Mediterranean light shift throughout the day. No notable facilities are available on-site: no restrooms, parking, or dining options. The beach holds no Blue Flag designation and offers no lifeguard supervision. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility has not been developed. Visitors must come fully self-sufficient and respect the site's natural conditions, with no formalized emergency services.
The name Feraoune derives from Kabylie's Amazigh toponymy, a region where Tamazight remains the primary language. Tigzirt, which administers this coastal sector, was an ancient port known as Rusubbicari, a hub for Mediterranean trade. Feraoune Beach remains largely absent from Algerian tourist circuits, a status that has preserved its raw character. During summer months, local families from Tigzirt visit discreetly, steering clear of the neighboring Grande Plage's crowds, perpetuating a quiet Mediterranean bathing tradition practiced in Kabylie's coastal villages for generations.
