Plage Mkhaled stretches along the Algerian coastline, about 35 kilometers west of Oran, on the Mediterranean coast of the northwest of the country. This stretch of shore is part of a string of small beaches that dot this coastal region, characterized by limestone cliffs and rocky coves interspersed with sandy strips. The Mediterranean displays changing hues depending on the light, shifting from deep blue to emerald reflections near the shore. The site is part of a sparsely populated seaside area, in immediate proximity to Plage Mkhalled (400 meters) and Mkhalled Beach (700 meters), sharing their scattered and undeveloped character. Access remains rudimentary, typical of the beaches on this Oran coast where tourist infrastructure is limited. The shore offers a relaxing atmosphere away from hotel complexes, attracting local and regional clientele seeking authenticity rather than standardized amenities. No supervision service is provided on site. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not guaranteed. The beach does not have Blue Flag status. Visitors should anticipate their visit and check local conditions, particularly with the Oran coastal authorities who can provide information on bathing and recommended periods.
The toponym Mkhaled (also spelled Mkhalled), of Amazigh origin, refers to the ancient history of the Algerian coastline, where coastal Berber populations have long practiced fishing and maritime trade. This region, between Oran and Sidi Bel Abbès, has experienced successive waves of Phoenician, Roman, and Arab settlement before becoming, in the Ottoman era, a transit point for Mediterranean merchant ships. Today, Plage Mkhaled remains a discreet bathing spot, frequented mainly by residents of the surrounding villages, offering them a Mediterranean respite away from the urban bustle of Oran.
