شاطئ سيدي مجذوب

Sidi Mejdoub stretches along the Algerian Mediterranean coast, in the immediate vicinity of the Cheliff region, in the wilaya of Chlef. Located about 1.4 km west of the local Water Park, this beach is part of a string of seaside resorts that dot this section of the North Algerian shore. The surrounding coastline is characterized by an alternation of sandy beaches and rock formations typical of the Algerian Tell, where the Mediterranean meets a coast relatively untouched by large tourist developments. The coastal waters, a blue-green hue depending on the season, benefit from direct exposure to northerly winds that temper the summer heat. The beach itself offers direct access to the sea without formalized surveillance equipment. Unlike Plage Sonagther, 5.1 km to the east and known to be more frequented, Sidi Mejdoub retains a less structured profile, attracting a local clientele attached to the authenticity of the shore. 9.1 km to the southeast lies Plage Cheliff, while Les Sablettes, 9.7 km away, marks the western end of the area. The character of this coastal section remains that of a classic Mediterranean coastal bathing spot, without intrusive tourist infrastructure. The site has no Blue Flag status and offers no organized beach surveillance. Access for people with reduced mobility is not provided. Visitors must plan for complete self-sufficiency for basic equipment and services, making it a place for experienced swimmers rather than families seeking standardized beach comfort.

About this spot

Sidi Mejdoub derives its name from Algerian Maraboutic tradition, where « Sidi » designates a holy man or revered figure, while « Mejdoub » refers to one who is « attracted » or « possessed » by divine grace—a common nomenclature in Maghrebi toponymy. This Cheliff region, once the agricultural breadbasket of colonial Algeria, has undergone a gradual transformation of its coastal economy during the 20th century. Although little documented in international tourist narratives, the beach remains a landmark for local communities who practice traditional fishing and seasonal bathing there. Local fishermen say that the waters of Sidi Mejdoub, particularly rich in sardines and anchovies, still attract artisanal boats at dawn, perpetuating a coastal way of life unchanged for generations.
