El Batah Beach stretches along the Algerian Mediterranean coast, in the eastern region, near Annaba. Located at coordinates 36.8459°N / 7.9343°E, this beach is part of a coastline characterized by the alternation of sandy coves and rocky formations typical of the eastern Maghreb. The shore, exposed to the influences of the Mediterranean, benefits from this coastal geography where small bays succeed limestone promontories. Nearby beaches—Premier Rocher at 6.4 km and Salinas de Bône at 8 km—mark a succession of points of interest along this stretch of the Algerian coastline. The beach is distinguished by its relatively direct access to the water and its minimally developed character, typical of Algerian coasts outside major tourist areas. Unlike developed seaside resorts, El Batah retains a local beach atmosphere, frequented mainly by residents of the region. The immediate environment reflects the absence of significant commercial infrastructure, which gives the site a certain authenticity. Visitors will find a Mediterranean swimming experience without the overload of standardized tourist amenities. No swimming supervision is provided on-site, and access for people with reduced mobility is not developed. The Blue Flag status has not been awarded to this beach. Facilities such as toilets, showers, or parking are not among the documented amenities of the location.
El Batah, whose name evokes in Algerian dialect Arabic an open space or coastal depression, fits into the historical geography of the Annaba region. This stretch of the Algerian coastline, long characterized by a coastal economy based on fishing and agriculture, remains poorly integrated into conventional tourist circuits. The proximity of Salinas de Bône—ancient saltworks exploited since Roman times—highlights the historical economic importance of this coast. Today, El Batah Beach remains a discreet swimming spot where local residents seek refuge away from the overcrowded urban beaches of Annaba.
