Located on Algeria's Mediterranean coast at coordinates 36.82°N / 5.73°E, this beach forms part of the northeastern Algerian shoreline, characterized by limestone cliffs interspersed with sandy coves. The north-facing shore benefits from direct exposure to Mediterranean winds and currents. Several accessible beaches lie nearby: Plage Rabta at 1.8 km, Plage Ouled Bounar at 2 km, and two numbered coves at 2.4 km and 2.6 km respectively, creating a succession of small havens along this jagged coastline. The beach itself features fine sand, typical of coastal formations in this region. The environment presents a marked contrast with its immediate neighbors: while Plage Rabta and Plage Ouled Bounar share the same sandy character, the adjacent coves offer a more confined geomorphology. Upon arrival, visitors encounter an open sandy expanse with no pronounced elevation changes, where sand slopes gradually into water that remains generally calm in the off-season but can experience winter swells. The atmosphere is that of a classic Mediterranean coastal beach, without spectacular amenities. The beach benefits from active lifeguard surveillance, a major asset for swimmer safety. No Blue Flag certification designates the site. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not guaranteed. No documented infrastructure—parking, restrooms, showers, or dining facilities—is available according to current data.
The name "Azaouï" draws from Amazigh toponymy of the Maghreb, where the suffix "-aouï" often designates a place or geographical feature. This Algerian coast, shaped by the geological history of the western Mediterranean, bears the marks of tectonic movements that created its cliffs and beaches. Though rarely featured in contemporary tourism accounts, this stretch of shoreline remains an anchor point for local communities, where artisanal fishing and seasonal swimming have structured the relationship with the sea for generations.
