Kotama Beach stretches along Algeria's Mediterranean coast at approximately 36.8°N latitude and 5.8°E longitude, in a coastal region defined by successive beaches and low-lying shoreline formations. This stretch of Algerian shore is part of a chain of beaches dotting this section of the Mediterranean, where the coastline alternates between sandy coves and small rocky headlands typical of this coastal geography. The beach sits within a densely populated coastal zone: Plage DZ lies just 500 meters to the east, while another Plage DZ occupies the area 800 meters away. Some 2.3 kilometers westward, Plage Rabta marks a shift in the coastal relief. This clustering of swimming spots reveals a fragmented shoreline, where each beach has its own character shaped by sediment deposits and exposure to prevailing winds. Kotama stands out for its direct sea access and its place within this Mediterranean beach continuum. The site remains unmonitored and lacks formal facilities. It holds no Blue Flag certification. The absence of precise data on accessibility or sanitary infrastructure reflects the more natural, less developed character of this stretch of Algerian coast, where visitor numbers remain modest compared to the country's major beach resorts.
Kotama takes its name from local Algerian place names, reflecting the linguistic heritage of the Maghreb. This beach is part of a Mediterranean coastal geography shaped by alluvial deposits and the coastal erosion processes characteristic of the region. The Algerian coastline, long sidelined from international tourism circuits due to geopolitical factors, retains stretches of shore with a less commercialized character, where beaches remain spaces of leisure for local populations rather than mass-market destinations.
