Lido di Ossuccio

Lido di Ossuccio stretches along the western shore of Lake Como in Italian Switzerland, a few kilometers south of Menaggio and about 40 km from Como. This portion of the alpine shoreline, characterized by wooded slopes that plunge directly into the deep, cold waters of the lake, offers a typical mountainous setting for the region. The lake itself, fed by alpine torrents and framed by the Prealps, maintains a moderate temperature even in summer, creating a bracing swimming atmosphere quite different from the warmer lakes of southern Switzerland. Lido di Ossuccio is distinguished by its grassy surface, rare among the lake beaches in the region. Unlike Lido di Lenno, located just 1.3 km to the north and equipped with more developed infrastructure, this site retains a cleaner, less developed character. Access to the water is gradual from the grassy strip bordering the lake, offering a natural transition between land and water. The depth increases progressively, making it accessible to swimmers of all levels. Access to Lido di Ossuccio is free. The site does not have official supervision and lacks facilities such as public showers or toilets. Its absence of Blue Flag certification reflects its informal status, without commercial infrastructure or permanent rescue services. This simplicity is precisely its appeal for visitors seeking a straightforward swimming experience.

About this spot

Ossuccio, a small Lombard village perched on the heights, has given its name to this lido, which remains one of the few grassy beaches on Lake Como. Historically, the shores of the lake served as access points for mountaineers and travelers heading to Italy via the alpine passes. The presence of this informal beach testifies to the traditional use of alpine lakes as communal swimming spots before the commercialization of shorelines. Even today, Lido di Ossuccio primarily welcomes local residents and hikers who discover the lake during their journeys between mountain villages.
