Lido di Lenno

The Lido di Lenno extends along the western shore of Lake Como, in Italian Switzerland, about 70 kilometers north of Milan and immediately adjacent to Lenno, a small village in the Lakes region. This section of the Ceresio—ancient name of the lake—offers a sheltered bay where the deep, cold waters characteristic of this Alpine glacier meet a wooded coast, dominated by the Prealps that plunge steeply towards the shore. The area remains relatively preserved, escaping the massive developments that mark other shores of the lake. Due to private access, the Lido retains a reserved character, distinct from neighboring public beaches like Plage CH (2.1 km away) and Victoria Beach (6.8 km to the south), which attract more passing visitors. The site presents itself as a quiet enclave, where local residents and lakeside property owners maintain a certain exclusivity. The water, clear but icy even in summer, requires adaptation for those who swim in it; the depth increases rapidly from the first few meters, a characteristic common to Alpine lakes. No services are reported on site: no toilets, no public parking, no supervision. As access is private, accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not among the facilities. This configuration reflects the nature of the site—a residential shore rather than an equipped tourist destination.

About this spot

Lenno, mentioned as early as the Middle Ages as a strategic river port, owes its name to the stream that supplied it. Lake Como itself, formed by glacial erosion about 12,000 years ago, remains the deepest lake in Italy (410 meters). The Lido di Lenno exemplifies the tradition of private beaches that dot the lake shores since the 19th century, when wealthy families from Milan and Bergamo built summer villas there. Unlike the public lidos that developed after World War II, this one has retained its character as a discreet refuge, frequented mainly by lakeside property owners who appreciate the tranquility of these Alpine waters.
