Hôtel les Hammadites beach stretches along the Algerian Mediterranean coast, in the Béjaïa region, in the immediate vicinity of Tichy. This stretch of the northeastern Algerian coast is characterized by a succession of small sandy coves framed by limestone rock formations typical of maritime Kabylie. The Mediterranean here displays its blue-green hues, particularly clear in summer, while the area behind the beach remains relatively preserved from intensive coastal development. The shore consists of fine, golden sand, with regular grain size, which gradually extends towards the open sea. Unlike Plage Capri tour (0.7 km away), which enjoys more direct exposure to north winds, this area benefits from a certain natural protection due to its topographical configuration. The atmosphere remains that of a coastal neighborhood beach, without intrusive tourist infrastructure, mainly frequented by local residents and regular bathers. At low tide, the exposed sand considerably widens the bathing area, revealing micro-reliefs and shallow water areas ideal for gradual entry. The site has neither swimming supervision nor standard facilities (toilets, showers, parking). Access for people with reduced mobility is not provided. No Blue Flag label certifies water quality. This situation reflects the informal character of many Algerian coastal beaches, where infrastructure often remains minimal and coastal management fragmented.
The name "Hammadites" refers to the Berber history of the region. The Hammadids were a Zenata dynasty of the central Middle Ages (10th-12th centuries) who controlled the central Maghreb from their capital Qal'a des Béni Hammad, inland. Although the hotel establishment that gave its name to this beach dates from the colonial or post-colonial era, the toponym preserves the memory of this historical power. The coast of Béjaïa, itself an ancient Genoese and Ottoman port, remains a crossroads where Mediterranean strata overlap: Phoenician, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, and European. The beaches of Tichy embody this continuity, welcoming the same seasonal bathing crowds generation after generation.
