Djoua Plage stretches along Algeria's Mediterranean coast in the immediate vicinity of Algiers, in a region where the shoreline alternates between small sandy coves and limestone cliffs. Located at approximately 36°42'N and 5°06'E, this beach is part of a chain of seaside destinations dotting the bay, characterized by generally calm waters and a gentle slope toward deeper waters. The hinterland offers a gradual transition between the Mediterranean and the Kabylie hills, typical of the Algiers coastal profile. Djoua Plage's shore consists of fine sand, offering an unpretentious beach experience in an area densely dotted with neighboring beaches. Plage DZ lies 400 meters away, while a second Plage DZ extends 1 kilometer along the coast and a third sits 1.4 kilometers away, forming an almost continuous succession of beach access points. This immediate proximity to other seaside sites defines the sector: the atmosphere remains that of an urban or peri-urban coast, without particular isolation. A riding club established 1.4 kilometers away underscores the character of a structured leisure zone rather than a wild one. The site operates without official lifeguard supervision or comfort facilities (restrooms, parking, showers). No environmental certification distinguishes it. Access remains free, reflecting common practice at Algiers beaches. For visitors, proximity to Algiers and the density of amenities in the immediate area compensate for the absence of dedicated services on-site.
Djoua, whose etymology remains poorly documented in academic sources, designates a sector of the Algerian coast that has been integrated since the twentieth century into Algiers' seaside belt. The region, historically a point of contact between the Mediterranean world and the North African interior, gradually saw popular bathing areas emerge as urbanization progressed. Unlike the major tourist beaches along Algeria's coast, Djoua Plage retains the character of a neighborhood beach, frequented by local residents rather than organized international tourism.
