Water Fun

Water Fun is a water park located in Benalmádena, on the Andalusian Costa del Sol, about 25 kilometers west of Malaga. The site occupies a prime location directly on the Mediterranean Sea, in a coastal area characterized by well-developed urban beaches and high tourist density. The surrounding coastline alternates between stretches of fine sand and small rocky coves, dominated by a mountainous hinterland that gradually slopes towards the sea. The Bay of Benalmádena offers generally calm, turquoise waters, protected from prevailing winds by the local geographical configuration. The water park is distinguished from the adjacent natural beaches—Playas Benalmádena and Playa del Arroyo de la Miel y los Melilleros, located just 400 meters away—by its entirely artificial infrastructure and mechanical attractions. Unlike the nearby natural shores, Water Fun offers a freshwater or chlorinated experience, with slides, pools of various depths, and structured leisure areas. The atmosphere is that of a mass tourist facility, far from the intimacy of the small coastal beaches that dot the region. The setting remains, however, dominated by the proximity of the Mediterranean Sea, visible from several areas of the park. The site does not have Blue Flag status, and no official surveillance is reported. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not documented in the available data. No information regarding the presence of restaurants, showers, or parking is confirmed by the consulted sources. Water Fun remains one option among a dense ecosystem of seaside attractions, where the natural beaches of Playa de Santa Ana (500 meters) and Playa de Torrevigía (1.3 kilometers) offer less crowded alternatives.

About this spot

Benalmádena, whose name derives from the Arabic "Banu Almada" (Berber tribe), transformed over the 20th century from a fishing village into a major tourist destination. The Water Fun water park symbolizes this transformation, representing the Spanish approach of the 1980s-1990s to mass seaside leisure. The Costa del Sol, once an isolated agricultural coast, experienced a population boom linked to international tourism—a metamorphosis that generated both economic opportunities and environmental tensions. Water Fun embodies this duality: a modern entertainment facility, but also a symptom of intensive coastal development that has shaped the region's contemporary identity.
