Playa de los Boliches

Located on the coast of Málaga, Andalusia, Playa de los Boliches stretches along the Costa del Sol coastline, in the immediate vicinity of Fuengirola. The shore is characterized by a succession of fine sandy beaches, framed by the typical urban developments of this densely built coastal region. The Mediterranean water, generally calm in summer, benefits from a southeast exposure that favors regular swimming even outside the season. This sandy beach is part of a seaside continuum where Playa de San Francisco (1 km away) and Playa de Fuengirola (1.9 km away) are the immediate landmarks. Unlike its more frequented neighbors, Playa de los Boliches retains a less touristy character, attracting local clientele and visitors seeking a less crowded experience. The fine, golden sand widens at low tide, revealing areas suitable for relaxation. The area behind the beach, lined with small commercial establishments and residences, offers direct access to local services without overwhelming the site with infrastructure. The absence of official supervision characterizes this stretch of coastline, as does the absence of the Blue Flag label. No major infrastructure—parking, showers, public toilets—is documented on the site itself, although the proximity of Fuengirola makes these services accessible within a few minutes' walk. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not provided. Swimming remains free and unsupervised, which corresponds to the profile of less formalized Andalusian beaches.

About this spot

The name "Boliches" historically refers to the small traditional fishing ports of the Málaga coast, where light boats and nets constituted the local economy before the tourist transformation of the 1960s. The Fuengirola region, to which this beach administratively belongs, has undergone a radical metamorphosis: from a fishing village to a major seaside resort. Playa de los Boliches remains a vestige of this transition, retaining a less commercialized atmosphere than its immediate neighbors, frequented by British retirees and Spanish families who have known the Costa del Sol for decades rather than by massive international tourist flows.
