La Plage de Forel extends along the northern shore of Lake Neuchâtel, in French-speaking Switzerland, in the immediate vicinity of the town of Forel. The lake, the largest body of water entirely within Switzerland, borders a shore here characterized by gentle, gradual banks, typical of this region of the Jura-Lemanic area. The sector enjoys a southwest exposure, offering good afternoon light. To the west, Plage CH is located 6.2 km away; to the east, Plage de Cortaillod (6.9 km) and Plage de Boudry (7.6 km) structure the local bathing offer. This portion of the Neuchâtel shore remains less frequented than its immediate neighbors, retaining a quiet and undeveloped atmosphere. The site is distinguished by its grassy surface, a rare characteristic for a Swiss lake beach. This peculiarity gives the place a unique character: rather than a strip of sand or pebbles, it is a meadow that gradually descends towards the water, creating a natural transition between land and lake. Access to the water is without abrupt breaks, favoring gentle and gradual swimming. The absence of large-scale facilities preserves the intimacy of the site, although the grass requires some tolerance for the changing weather conditions of the Jura climate. No notable infrastructure is reported on site. The site does not benefit from the Blue Flag label and is not subject to any supervision. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not guaranteed, given the natural configuration of the terrain. No restrictions regarding dogs have been recorded. Visitors should anticipate an independent visit, with no formalized dining or parking services in the immediate vicinity.
Forel, a toponym of pre-Alpine origin, historically designates the forested areas of the Jura. Lake Neuchâtel, formed by the retreat of Quaternary glaciers, has shaped this shore for millennia. The grassy surface of this beach reflects the absence of strong sedimentary dynamics: unlike Alpine lakes with torrential flows, Neuchâtel slowly accumulates fine deposits, allowing vegetation to colonize the low banks. In the 19th century, the lake shores hosted intense fishing activity, before lake tourism redefined the use of these spaces. Today, local fishermen still regularly frequent these discreet banks.
