Place des Pêcheurs

La Place des Pêcheurs stretches along the shores of Lake Geneva, in the canton of Vaud, about 15 kilometers east of Lausanne. This portion of the Lake Geneva shoreline is characterized by a succession of small coves and public access points, where the shore combines grassy areas and direct water entry points. The lake, with its cold, crystal-clear waters, borders a relatively urbanized coast here, yet remains accessible, with the Alps in the background to the south. The site derives its name from its history linked to lacustrine fishing activities, a tradition still alive on Lake Geneva. Access to the water is from a small open esplanade, without formal beach infrastructure in the strict sense. Unlike Plage CH, located 2.8 kilometers to the west, which benefits from better demarcation, La Place des Pêcheurs retains a more informal and less frequented character. Neighboring beaches at 3.2 kilometers offer similar configurations, while the sector at 3.6 kilometers marks a transition to denser residential areas. No support services are present on site. Access is not adapted for people with reduced mobility. Swimming remains free and unsupervised, making it a transit point for local residents and fishermen rather than a structured seaside destination. Traffic remains moderate, especially outside the summer periods.

About this spot

The name 'Place des Pêcheurs' directly evokes the traditional economy of Lake Geneva, where fishing has long been a major resource. This small esplanade, although less famous than the tourist beaches of Montreux or Vevey, retains the atmosphere of old landing stages on the lake. Local fishermen still moor their boats here, perpetuating a use that dates back centuries, when fishing for fera and perch structured the economy of the Vaud shores.
