스페인어로 '작은 돌'을 의미하는 '피에드라'라는 이름은 수백만 년 전의 화산 및 석회암 퇴적물로 형성된 보카스 델 토로 해안의 암석 노두를 암시합니다. 20세기 초 바나나 무역의 주요 중심지였던 이 군도는 식민지 역사의 흔적을 해안 풍경에 간직하고 있습니다. 이 지역의 해변은 오랫동안 보트 외에는 접근할 수 없었으며, 수 세대에 걸쳐 어부와 금 탐사꾼들을 끌어들인 후 점차 잘 알려진 관광 경로에서 벗어난 생태계를 찾는 여행자들의 목적지가 되었습니다. 오늘날에도 이 해변은 보카스 델 토로의 해안 지역의 일부로 남아 있으며, 고대 해양 생태계의 흔적을 보존하고 있습니다.
