Caroubier stretches along the Algerian Mediterranean coast, approximately 1.1 km east of Azeffoun Beach, in the Tizi Ouzou region. This section of the Kabylo-Riffian shoreline is characterized by a succession of small coves and sandy beaches bordered by wooded hills descending to the sea. The north-south oriented shore benefits from direct exposure to Mediterranean waves and lies in a coastal sector where Blerouna Beach (9.1 km to the west) and Sidi Khelifa Beach (10.1 km to the east) serve as major local landmarks. Caroubier's fine golden sand contrasts with rocky formations scattered along its immediate edges. The beach offers a more intimate setting than its neighbors, with a gradual slope toward the clear Mediterranean waters. The backshore remains sparsely developed, preserving an atmosphere of relative tranquility despite scattered dwellings. Sandy bottoms facilitate swimming access, particularly appreciated in summer when weather conditions are stable. The beach is under surveillance, ensuring a degree of safety for swimmers during the summer season. No Blue Flag certification has been awarded to the site. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not provided. The area lacks the standardized facilities found in more developed beach resorts, which preserves its natural character.
The name "Caroubier" refers to the carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua), a traditional Mediterranean species present in the agrarian landscapes of the Maghreb. This coastal region of Kabylie, historically inhabited by Amazigh communities, was long organized around agriculture and artisanal fishing. The beaches of this coast, though less famous than those of western Great Kabylie, retain local importance for residents of surrounding coastal and mountain villages. The supervision in place reflects efforts to improve beach safety undertaken since the 2000s in Algerian coastal resorts, even at secondary sites.
