Güneyli Plajı extends along the coast of the Sea of Marmara, in the region of Eastern Thrace (Trakya) in Turkey, near the Dardanelles Strait. Located about 40 kilometers northwest of Çanakkale, this shore is part of a succession of small beaches dotting this sparsely urbanized stretch of coastline. The coast here has a relatively wild character, with low cliffs and Mediterranean scrub areas dominating the backshore, typical of the landscapes of Turkish Thrace. The beach itself remains little frequented and retains an authentic atmosphere. It is part of a string of modest coastal sites: TR-BLK Beach is only 400 meters away, while Fatma Kadın Plajı, more developed, is 1.3 kilometers away. Mavi Saroz Plajı, at 3.2 kilometers, marks a slightly livelier area of the coastline. Access remains simple but without formalized tourist amenities, which preserves the site's raw character. No structured services are documented on site: no lifeguard supervision, no accessibility for people with reduced mobility, and the absence of the Blue Flag reflects the informal status of this stretch of shore. Visitors must plan for complete self-sufficiency regarding equipment and safety.
The name "Güneyli" literally means "from the south" in Turkish, a simple geographical designation reflecting the beach's position relative to local landmarks. This Thracian coast, not widely documented in major tourist routes, retains the imprint of millennia of Mediterranean history: its proximity to the Dardanelles has made it a strategic area since antiquity. Beaches in this region remain largely frequented by local populations rather than international tourism, which preserves their discreet and uncommercialized character, typical of Turkish hinterland coastlines.
