شاطئ أجرود

Located on the Algerian Mediterranean coast, about 35 km east of Oran, this beach is part of a coastline characterized by alternating rocky coves and small sandy stretches. The region, dominated by a semi-arid hinterland, offers a striking contrast between the ochre lands and the blue-green waters of the Mediterranean. The area remains sparsely populated, with scattered coastal villages and minimal tourist infrastructure, giving this stretch of coast an authentic atmosphere. This beach is distinguished by its quiet and uncrowded character, contrasting sharply with the two neighboring beaches located 1 km and 1.2 km away, which attract more visitors. Conversely, it shares with Chaïb Rass (2.5 km) and Plage de Bidar (3.9 km) a certain ruggedness of the shore and a local rather than tourist clientele. Access remains direct from the coastal road, although facilities are basic. The shore, exposed to northwesterly winds, has a natural morphology little modified, where rocks and fine sand alternate depending on the sections. No structured facilities (toilets, showers, designated parking) are reported on site. The beach does not have Blue Flag status and no supervision is provided. Access remains free but without accessibility facilities for people with reduced mobility. This configuration makes it a bathing destination for autonomous visitors seeking an experience without commercial intermediaries.

About this spot

The name Agroude, transcribed in Arabic as شاطئ أجرود, has its roots in the Berber toponymy of the region, where geographical terms often reflect the nature of the terrain. This Algerian coast, long away from major tourist routes, retains the imprint of centuries of Mediterranean navigation, from the Phoenicians to the Barbary corsairs. Local fishermen continue to dock there regularly, perpetuating an age-old tradition of exploiting marine resources. During road extension works in 2015, Roman pottery was discovered nearby, attesting to an established ancient presence. Today, this beach remains a landmark for coastal navigators and Oran families seeking an escape from overcrowded urban beaches.
