Gebeş Plajı

Gebeş Beach stretches along the Black Sea coast, in the Bithynia region of Turkey, about 150 km east of Istanbul. The surrounding coastline is characterized by a succession of small beaches and coves, framed by wooded hills that gradually descend towards the water. The Black Sea, less agitated than the Mediterranean, offers generally calm waters here, especially in summer. The area remains sparsely developed, with scattered coastal villages and a preserved hinterland dominated by forest. The beach itself is a discreet stop on this stretch of the Bithynian coast. Located 4.4 km from its immediate neighbors and 6.2 km from other small coastal beaches, it retains a secluded character without being isolated. Access is easy from local coastal roads, and the site primarily attracts local clientele and transit travelers. The shore, exposed to northern winds depending on the season, offers an authentic maritime environment, far from standardized tourist facilities. No major tourist facilities are reported on site. The beach is not Blue Flag certified and has no supervision. Access remains free and without formal restriction, respecting local customs. Visitors should equip themselves autonomously for their comfort and safety.

About this spot

The name Gebeş refers to the local geography of the Black Sea, where small Turkish ports and coastal villages often bear names of ancient origin, sometimes dating back to the Greek or Byzantine periods. This region, historically a crossroads between Asia Minor and the Balkans, has preserved traces of its cosmopolitan past. The beaches of the Bithynian coast, less touristy than those of the Turkish Mediterranean, remain swimming spots frequented by local populations for generations, according to seasonal rhythms and informal practices.
