Plage municipale de Duingt

Duingt stretches along the eastern shore of Lake Annecy, in Haute-Savoie, about forty kilometers south of Geneva. The village overlooks one of France's most beautiful alpine lakes, renowned for the purity of its waters and the amphitheater of mountains that surrounds it. The shore here alternates between small pebble beaches and grassy areas, typical of the Savoyard coastline where glacial geology prevails over fine sand. The municipal beach occupies a strip of grassy land directly on the water's edge, without any actual sand. Unlike the Jet de la Rose, located 1.6 km to the north and more frequented in summer, or the Talloires Municipal Beach (1.7 km to the south), which benefit from better exposure, this area remains more discreet and less developed. Access to the water is gradual, characteristic of lake swimming. The site offers an unobstructed view of the lake, with the Dents de Lanfon in the background. A free parking lot adjoins the site, facilitating vehicle access. No supervision is provided. The absence of the Blue Flag label reflects the lack of water quality control structures, although Lake Annecy is renowned for its clarity. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not adapted.

About this spot

Duingt derives its name from the Latin 'dunum' (fortress) and 'ingus' (narrow), evoking the medieval castle that overlooks the village from the 11th century. Lake Annecy, formed by the Fier glacier during the last ice age, flows into the Thiou and then the Isère. Long a domain of Savoyard fishermen and farmers, the lake gradually attracted swimmers and tourists from the Belle Époque onwards. Municipal beaches like Duingt's bear witness to this democratization of lake leisure in the 20th century, transforming a utilitarian space into a collective relaxation area.
