Located on the Algerian northwest coast, at coordinates 37°04'N / 7°22'E, this beach is part of the Mediterranean coastline of the Oran Wilaya, in the immediate vicinity of the Gulf of Arzew. The shore, characterized by its direct exposure to Atlantic swells filtered by the Strait of Gibraltar, borders a succession of shallow coves typical of this coastal region. The backshore consists of eroded limestone formations, while the seabed alternates between sandy and rocky bottoms depending on the depth. The beach itself has a profile of pebbles and gravel, a common surface for beaches in this part of the Oran coastline. In the immediate vicinity, Plage Coucha and Plage DZ are only 0.4 km away, forming a string of small bathing areas fragmented by rocky outcrops. The atmosphere remains that of an undeveloped shoreline, where the sound of waves on pebbles predominates. Swimming is gradual, with pebbles giving way to rocky bottoms that require particular attention when entering the water. No major tourist infrastructure is reported on site. The beach does not benefit from the Blue Flag label and remains unsupervised. Access for people with reduced mobility is not provided. This configuration makes it a beach for informed visitors, devoid of formal services but offering a raw and sparsely populated coastal experience.
The name 'Baie Ouest' (West Bay) reflects the geographical position of the site within the Gulf of Arzew, a large bay open to the west on the Mediterranean. This Algerian coastal region, historically linked to Phoenician and Roman trade, retains traces of typical Mediterranean geology: Miocene limestones and Tertiary formations shaped by marine erosion. The pebbles that make up the beach come from the dismantling of these coastal formations. Although little documented in contemporary tourist guides, this part of the Oran coastline remains frequented by local swimmers who appreciate its relative isolation and direct access without crossing major urban areas.
