Spiaggia Varesella

Spiaggia Varesella extends along the Swiss shore of Lake Maggiore, in Ticino, a few kilometers north of Locarno. This stretch of the Ticino coastline offers a succession of small coves and beaches where the Alps are reflected in the deep lake waters. The surrounding landscape mixes Mediterranean vegetation and wooded mountains, creating an atmosphere halfway between the Mediterranean and the pre-Alps. The beach is characterized by its direct access to the calm waters of Lake Maggiore, far from the hustle and bustle of seaside resorts. Located 1.8 km from Spiaggia pubblica di Giacumöö and 2.2 km from Beach CH, it occupies a less frequented position than its immediate neighbors, offering a more contemplative experience. The shore, typical of Ticino beaches, invites quiet swims and moments of relaxation facing the mountains. No notable facilities are reported on site. The beach is not Blue Flag certified and has no supervision. Access remains basic, without specific facilities for people with reduced mobility.

About this spot

Lake Maggiore, called Verbano in Italian and Langensee in German, is Italy's second-largest lake but extends widely into Swiss territory. The toponym Varesella evokes the small bays ("varese") characteristic of this Ticino shore, formed by glacial erosion in the Quaternary. The Swiss shore of the lake, long less developed than its Italian counterpart, has retained a certain tourist discretion. Ticino beaches like this one remain local swimming spots rather than mass resort destinations, frequented by residents of Locarno and the surrounding Alpine villages for their crystal-clear waters and proximity to hiking trails.
