Lido Polizia di Stato Capaci

The Lido Polizia di Stato Capaci extends along the northern coast of Sicily, a few kilometers west of Palermo, in the municipality of Capaci. This portion of the Tyrrhenian coastline is characterized by a succession of small beaches and coves, framed by limestone hills that gradually slope down to the sea. The coast here remains relatively preserved, with a hinterland still largely agricultural despite the proximity of the Palermo agglomeration. The shore is part of a fragmented coastal area, alternating between sandy stretches and rocky outcrops typical of this Mediterranean region. This beach, managed by the Italian State Police, occupies an interstitial position between Panta Rei and Spiaggia de Isola delle Femmine, both 0.3 km away. Unlike its immediate neighbors, often frequented by regular vacationers, the Lido retains a more institutional and closed character. The sand forms a narrow strip, typical of Sicilian beaches in this location, with a gentle slope facilitating access to the water. The atmosphere remains that of a functional facility rather than a tourist one, where swimming takes place in a structured and supervised environment. The site benefits from permanent supervision, making it one of the few beaches in this area to offer this guarantee. No Blue Flag is awarded. Access for people with reduced mobility is not provided. The beach remains primarily a local swimming area, frequented by residents of Capaci and public administration employees who have access to it.

About this spot

The name "Lido Polizia di Stato" reveals the site's affiliation with the Italian police administration, which has managed this beach as a recreational area for its agents for several decades. Capaci, a municipality on the western edge of the Palermo agglomeration, historically developed as a coastal fishing village before experiencing gradual urbanization during the 20th century. The coastline in this area retains traces of a less densely populated Sicily, where public and semi-public facilities often constitute the last accessible swimming areas near Palermo. This beach thus represents less a tourist destination than a testament to the institutional seaside uses that characterize certain sectors of the Sicilian coastline.
