La Plage des Dattiés stretches along the Algerian Mediterranean coastline, in immediate proximity to the country's northern coast at coordinates 36.4755°N / 1.0384°E. This stretch of shore is part of a succession of beaches that dot this coastal region, characterized by an alternation of sandy coves and rock formations typical of Mediterranean Algeria. The surrounding coastline presents a contrasting geography, with mountainous backgrounds gradually descending towards the sea. The beach itself is part of a densely punctuated set of small bathing areas: Plage DZ is only 200 meters away, while Plage du camp des oulemas is 400 meters away. This proximity reflects the characteristic fragmentation of the Algerian coastline, where beaches often follow one another in small segments separated by rocky points or coastal developments. The site offers direct access to the Mediterranean, in a setting where tourist infrastructure remains minimal. No supervision facilities are present on site. Access for people with reduced mobility is not provided. The beach does not have Blue Flag status. Visitors should anticipate their visit based on local weather conditions and seasonal attendance periods.
The name "Dattiés" likely evokes the historical presence of date palms in the Algerian hinterland, emblematic trees of North African oases and Mediterranean coastal areas. This region of the Algerian coast, long a crossroads of Phoenician, Roman, and Ottoman civilizations, retains traces of these multiple influences in its toponymy. The beaches of this coast, although poorly documented in international tourist guides, are testaments to Algerian coastal life, far from the standardized seaside resorts of the Mediterranean basin.
