Punta Culebra stretches along the Pacific coast of Panama, in immediate proximity to the Pearl Islands archipelago (Archipiélago de las Perlas). Located in the warm, shallow waters of the Gulf of Panama, this stretch of coastline is part of a chain of small island and coastal beaches that characterize this region. The shore, dominated by fine golden sand, is set within a typical tropical landscape where mangroves and dense vegetation frame access to the sea. The immediate environment remains sparsely urbanized, offering an atmosphere of relative tranquility despite the proximity of the Panamanian capital. The beach itself features a sandy surface, with moderate exposure to Pacific swells. Unlike Playita de Amador, only 200 meters away and more frequented, Punta Culebra retains a more secluded character. 700 meters to the northeast is Playa de Isla Perico, while Playa de Isla Flamenco, 1 kilometer away, is a major landmark in this coastal sector. The coastline consists of sandy strips interrupted by low rocky formations, typical of the islands and peninsulas in the gulf. Access remains limited and controlled, thus preserving the intimacy of the place. Access to this beach is private, which restricts visitor numbers. No official supervision is provided. The absence of standard facilities (toilets, showers, parking) reflects its status as a less developed tourist area. No Blue Flag certification applies to this site. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility is not guaranteed.
Punta Culebra derives its name from local geography: "culebra" means snake in Spanish, likely referring to the peninsula's elongated shape or the sinuosity of its coastline. This coastal area is part of Panama's geological history, marked by tectonic activity and the gradual emergence of lands that shaped the Pearl Islands Archipelago. Although little documented in major tourist narratives, Punta Culebra remains a point of passage for local residents and navigators exploring the Gulf of Panama, far from the commercialized circuits of the capital.
