Located on the Algerian Mediterranean coast, approximately at 37°N and 6.5°E, this small beach is part of the rugged coastline of the Collo region, where limestone cliffs alternate with sandy coves. The Mediterranean here displays its blue-green waters, temperate in summer and often stirred by northerly winds. The shore, dominated by the rocky heights of the hinterland, offers a coastal geography typical of eastern Maghreb, where each beach remains separated from its neighbors by headlands or imposing geological formations. Fine, light sand makes up most of this small beach, exposed to Mediterranean swells without major natural protection. Just 1 km to the west is Plage Ain Doula, while Ain Lakssabe stretches 1.3 km in the same direction—nearby but distinct alternatives in configuration. The site itself retains an undeveloped character, with a narrow strip of sand that widens according to the seasons and tidal conditions. Visitors discover an atmosphere of relative tranquility, far from concrete developments, where human presence remains discreet and seasonal. No structured facilities mark this area: no lifeguard supervision, no access adapted for people with reduced mobility. The site does not benefit from the Blue Flag label. Access remains free but requires a certain autonomy and good knowledge of local conditions. Visitors must anticipate the absence of infrastructure and come equipped with essentials.
Collo, an ancient Phoenician and Roman port known as Saldae, has retained its strategic importance throughout the medieval and Ottoman periods. The name 'Petite plage Collo' (Small Collo Beach) simply reflects its minor position in the hierarchy of coves on this fragmented coastline. The region remains less touristy compared to the seaside resorts of the western Maghreb, which preserves these beaches from massive urbanization. According to local fishermen's accounts, these waters are home to populations of octopus and red mullet whose abundance fluctuates according to Mediterranean cycles, still attracting a few artisanal boats at the beginning of the season.
