Havajka

Havajka extends along the Croatian Adriatic coast, in the immediate vicinity of Pula, the historical capital of Istria. Located at 44°50'N and 13°50'E, this beach is part of a cluster of small coves that punctuate the rocky coastline of the peninsula. The bay offers direct access to crystal-clear waters, typical of this region where limestone cliffs plunge abruptly into the Eastern Mediterranean. The shore, exposed to northwesterly winds, benefits from natural protection conferred by its topography. The beach is distinguished by its pebble surface, a common characteristic of Istrian coasts. Only 400 meters from Kayak Centar Pula, it remains quieter than its immediate neighbors, notably Velika Kava (2 km) and Beach Centinera (2.6 km), which attract more visitors. The site retains an intimate character: a narrow strip of gray and white pebbles, punctuated by smooth rocks eroded by time, invites swimming in a sparsely populated atmosphere. The water, shallow at the edge, deepens gradually, ideal for progressive entry. A lifeguard ensures swimming supervision during the summer season. No permanent facilities are reported on site. Access is not adapted for people with reduced mobility. Havajka does not benefit from the Blue Flag label, but its integration into Pula's seaside offerings makes it a convenient mooring point for those exploring the micro-beaches of this coast.

About this spot

The name Havajka evokes the Hawaiian Islands, a humorous or nostalgic reference typical of Croatian coastlines where small coves receive evocative nicknames. Pula, founded by the Romans as Polae, remains the urban and port heart of Istria; its coastal waters, long exploited for maritime fishing and trade, today host a modest seaside economy. The Istrian coast, shaped by Jurassic limestone, produces these characteristic pebbles and exceptionally clear waters. Small beaches like Havajka, once ignored by tourist guides, have seen a resurgence of interest in the last two decades among swimmers seeking to escape Pula's overcrowded urban beaches.
