Plage de la Dalle stretches along the Mediterranean coast of Languedoc, immediately adjacent to Agde in Hérault. Located roughly 40 kilometres southwest of Montpellier, it borders the sandy shoreline characteristic of this region, where beaches blend seamlessly into one another facing the shallow waters of the Mediterranean. The shore is defined by its flat, accessible profile, typical of Languedocian coasts, with no cliffs or dramatic rock formations. Positioned within a densely developed coastal zone, this beach sits between Beach Agde 4 just 200 metres away and Plage de la Roquille 1 kilometre to the west. Unlike its immediate neighbours, which benefit from better tourist signage, la Dalle maintains a lower profile, with no major visible facilities. Fine, pale sand characterises the beach, offering a straightforward seaside experience without distinctive geomorphological features. The overall atmosphere remains that of a peripheral urban beach, integrated into Agde's tourist landscape without being its focal point. The site has no official lifeguard presence or documented comfort amenities. Access for people with reduced mobility is limited. No blue flag certifies water quality. As a result, this beach appeals primarily to independent visitors seeking a less developed alternative to Agde's better-equipped neighbouring beaches.
The name "Dalle" reflects local geology: limestone slabs surface or lie buried beneath the sand of the Languedocian coast, a legacy of Jurassic formations from the Aquitaine Basin. Agde itself, founded by the Phocaeans around 600 BC, long dominated this coastal sector. Though modest, la Dalle is part of this rich Mediterranean beach heritage where each shore carries the memory of successive commercial and tourist waves. Local residents recognise it as a less crowded access point than the central beaches, particularly during peak season.
